Indiana Space Adventure Camps
Indiana Space Adventure Camps will be offered this summer at the Challenger Learning Center of Northwest Indiana (located on the Purdue University Calumet campus). Reservations will be taken starting March 2, 2009.
1st & 2nd GRADE STUDENTS* Come to the Challenger Learning Center and prepare for a return mission to the moon! Join us for lots of hands-on science and moon facts. Snack and certificate is included. June 29, 30, July 1, 2 8:30am-11:30pm or 12:30pm-3:30pm COST: $25.00 per camper
3rd & 4th GRADE STUDENTS* Become an astronaut candidate and train for a mission aboard the International Space Station! 3rd and 4th grade campers will work in teams to investigate space food, space suits and space work. Camper's training includes learning about the solar system in our planetarium and practicing in our mission control and space station simulators for the day they become real astronauts! June 15-19 June 22-26 8:30am-11:30pm or 12:30pm-3:30pm COST: $125.00 per camper
5th & 6th GRADE STUDENTS* Spend a week at the Challenger Learning Center and gain insight into how NASA prepares for an upcoming mission. You will become astronauts and mission controllers that will train to qualify for a position on the Communications, Data, Navigation, Medical, Probe, Remote, Life Support or Isolation teams. The week includes hands-on activities that focus on using your problem-solving, teamwork and critical thinking skills during your own simulated mission. July 13-17 July 20-24 8:30am-3:30pm COST: $250.00 per camper
6th, 7th & 8th GRADE STUDENTS* The next step in exploring our solar system will be to return to the moon. This camp's activities focus on what NASA's scientists are focusing on: launching rockets and exploring lunar geology. Students will also investigate the history of space exploration in an effort to prepare for their mission to Return to the Moon. July 27-31 8:30am-3:30pm COST: $250.00 per camper
3rd-6th ONE-DAY CAMPS* Join us for one full-day camp focusing on various space themes.
July 6-10 8:30am-3:30pm COST: $50 per camper
Themes for the Camps: Monday, July 6: Dancing with the Stars - Astronomy *Campers will do a variety of astronomy-based activities Tuesday, July 7: CSI - Alien *Campers will be learning astrobiology concepts with a mystery solving twist. Wednesday, July 8: Survivor - Mars! *Activities will focus on teamwork and problem solving while addressing the specific problems of maintaining a habitat on Mars. Thursday, July 9: Mythbusters - Space Science *Activities focus on using the scientific method to explore a variety of space and science misconceptions. Friday, July 10: The Amazing Race - Robots *Campers will do a variety of activities with rockets, receiving envelopes with instructions to guide them through 4 different legs of the "race."
